On Thursday, 20th of August 2020,four students of the university of Port Harcourt were taken into custody by the EFCC. The 4 undergrads arrested by EFCC were said to have been involved in Internet fraud. Agents of the Port Harcourt district office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, apprehended them at their safe house at Chibiak Avenue, Elenpranwo, Ada George, Port Harcourt.
The four offenders who purportedly conned 15 subjects out of $111500 (One Hundred and Eleven Thousand, Five Hundred United States Dollars) are named,Prince Hyacinth; Rex Emadifie Oghene, Odili Ifeayi and Uduak Samuel Williams.
After they were taken into custody, some items were found; a Tecno Spark 4 belonging to Prince Hyacinth; an Iphone 11 Pro Max, two Infinix Hot and one apple Laptop belonging to Odili Ifeayi; an Iphone 7 and two Iphone 11 belonging to Rex Emadifie Oghene and one iphone 8+, one Acer Laptop and one HP Laptop belonging Uduak Samuel Williams.
Initial inquisition has revealed that the culprits were mainly engaged in amorous cons. They also functioned as pickers for a coordinated group of swindlers.
Prince Hyacinth exhibited himself as a Spain-based marine engineer to lure his victims, Rex Emadifie Oghene acted as a rig engineer based in the United State. The two other offenders, Odili Ifeayi and Uduak Samuel Williams showed themselves as rig or marine engineers to con their victims.
The 4 undergrads arrested by EFCC will be taken to court immediately investigation is completed.
